Karen Baptist Community
Since the mid 1990’s we have welcomed refugees from a number of different countries. In particular, we have developed special links with the Karen people of south east Myanmar (Burma) and especially the people in some of the refugee camps along the Thai border. We have been instrumental in bringing out several families as refugees to settle in Australia and have provided social, language and material aid. This is an ongoing part of our mission and includes ministry to other minority groups and asylum seekers as well.
A number of our members have visited and worked in the refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border and continue to return on a regular basis.
In the last few years the Karen community has grown and strengthened to the point that it sustains its own Karen language worship service (1pm Sundays), leadership and refugee support. We continue to share the buildings and regularly share in a combined multicultural service and wonderful Karen food!
